Comments:
Audio for Pat Benatar's "Shadows Of The Night"
We wrote "Lonely Nights" for Pat Benatar.  We were trying our best to copy the sound and feel of her hit single "Shadows Of The Night".  I think we tried getting the song to Pat, but if she ever heard it, I don't know.

For the musically inclined, the most obvious "Benatar influence" can be heard in the opening two chords of our verse, where we move from the "five" to the "one" chord, just as Benatar does for the opening two chords of the chorus in "Shadows Of The Night".

This was the first song we recorded for Bryan's "You Want It, You Got It" album.  In the summer of 1980, prior to Bob Clearmountain's involvement, Bryan booked a day at Little Mountain Sound in Vancouver.  With myself on bass and drums, Bryan on guitar, and Bob Rock engineering, we made an unsuccessful attempt at recording a "basic track" for Lonely Nights.

Will you risk your reputation? - I don't know
You just don't know what you're saying any more

You know beggars can't be choosers - and it's fair
We may win, we may be losers
I don't care, no, no, no

Oh baby, I just can't stand another lonely night
So come over and save me
Save me from another lonely night

I hear every word you're saying - they're all lies
But with every breath you're taking
You're thinking of ways to say goodnight

Oh baby, I just can't stand another lonely night
So come over and save me
Save me from another lonely night
