1851 Isle of Man Census: The Isle of Man Census (taken on March 30, 1851) shows the Skrine family residing at No. 6 Marina Terrace in the township of Conchan (Onchon?), near Douglas: Claremont Skrine, age 31, Late Capt 47th Foot, his wife, Maryanne and their children Francis (age 3, b. Ireland), Charles (age 2, b. Ireland) and Claremont Alfred (age 1, b. Isle of Man). They have four servants. |

1851: The Isle of Man Census (taken on March 30, 1851) shows Claremont Skrine, age 31, Late Capt 47th Foot, residing at No. 6 Marina Terrace in the township of Conchan (Onchon?) with his wife, Maryanne and their children Francis (age 3, b. Ireland), Charles (age 2, b. Ireland) and Claremont Alfred (age 1, b. Isle of Man). They have four servants. This is where we first learn that Clarmont Alfred Skrine is known by his second name, Alfred … probably to differentiate him from his younger brother, Claremont William. The Census finds the rest of Alfred's family (father, mother, six children, a visitor and six servants) living in Hadley, Somerset. |
